RCPI expanding regional training offices

RCPI plans to expand its regional offices with the next facility due to open later this year to support doctors working across the Dublin Midlands Hospital Group. It will be based between Tallaght University Hospital and St James’s Hospital, Dublin.

The college already has regional offices in Limerick, Galway and Cork.

According to Prof Mary Horgan, RCPI President, “it is very important for us that our trainees are supported locally, where they are training. [The regional offices] also provide a direct link between the training site and the RCPI offices in Dublin.”

She was speaking as the RCPI welcomed 527 trainees who have commenced postgraduate training with the college this July. This includes 332 trainees starting basic specialist training in general medicine, paediatrics, histopathology, and obstetrics/gynaecology; and 157 trainees starting higher specialist training across a range of specialties.

At this year’s induction days, Prof Horgan welcomed all doctors commencing or continuing their medical education in the college.

“Whether you are commencing your specialist training or continuing onto higher specialist training, it is a very important milestone in your medical career. We look forward to supporting you and nurturing you throughout your training with RCPI. This is your college and the college is your voice, so it is important that you become involved in college life.”

Prof Gaye Cunnane, Director of Health and Wellbeing at RCPI, highlighted the supports available to trainees.

“We are all here for the same purpose and it is important to look out for each other,” said Prof Cunnane.
