Over 1,000 doctors sign call for ‘Yes’ vote- says Together for Yes

By Dermot - 14th May 2018

The National Doctors Together For Yes Summit was held in Dublin last Saturday where the declaration calling for a change in the law and a ‘Yes’ vote in the upcoming referendum was unveiled.

“Doctors Together For Yes are revealing a public declaration by over 1,000 doctors who want [to] change the law to allow us provide compassionate care to our patients,” said Together For Yes national spokesperson Dr Mark Murphy.

“We are GPs, we are psychiatrists, we are obstetricians, we are medical students.”

Cork GP Dr Mary Favier said, “the voice of the profession was silent in 1983 when the Eighth was inserted in to the constitution.

“It is not silent today. Today is a day to state loudly, some of the work is done, there is more to do. Today we are committing to working to have the Eighth removed from the constitution.”

The list of doctors who signed the petition is available at www.togetherforyes.ie/doctors
