NAGP ‘receives assurances’ on GP contract

By Dermot - 06th Apr 2017

Dr Emmet Kerin, NAGP President, speaking after the meeting, said: “The NAGP delegation repeated our commitment to negotiating a completely new contract. We were clear that the NAGP would not settle for a redefinition of the existing contract with bolt-on elements. This was met with a firm commitment from both the Minister, and the Department of Health, that a new contract will be created.”

In its meeting with Minister Harris, the NAGP “sought to accelerate the process of engagement and, tomorrow, will meet again with representatives of the Department of Health and the HSE”, it said in a statement. “The NAGP recognise that GP practices continue to struggle to operate in the current environment.”

Dr Kerin told members in a communication sent today: “We are seeking immediate funding for general practice and are optimistic that short term reliefs will be forthcoming while we progress the new contract.”
