IPNA launches general practice nurse survey

The Irish Practice Nurses Association (IPNA) is calling on general practice nurses (GPNs) to complete a survey aimed at boosting the profile of the profession nationally. 

The survey, which is open to all GPNs, aims to capture the demographics of practice nurses, their professional development and education, and identify what additional supports are needed.

According to the IPNA, there are around 1,800 GPNs nationally, yet many feel there role is largely an invisible one overlooked by the public. 

The IPNA wants to ensure the role of GPNs working in primary care is valued, visible and supported.

The association is currently engaging with the Department of Health, ICGP and Professional Development Coordinators inlobbying for recognition for the profession. 

To strengthen its work and engagement with stakeholders, it is calling on all GPNs to participate in the survey, which takes about 12 minutes to complete. Individual responses will be kept anonymous.

Gillian Redmond National IPNA Chairperson said: “this is our opportunity to present one, definitive tool that informs stakeholders about the general practice nurses’ population in Ireland. This survey will have an impact. It will make general practice nurses more visible. The more nurses who complete the survey, the louder we can be so please feel free to share the survey with your nursing colleagues.  We assure you that the IPNA National Executive Officers will present this data to ensure the voices and feedback of all general practice nurses in Ireland is heard”.

The IPNA was established to support the advancement of education in general practice in Ireland by promoting and assisting nurses in further education and to provide a forum for the dissemination of information on developments in the general practice nursing field, to promote the highest standards of care to benefit the community.
