Cabinet meeting today on CervicalCheck following DG resignation

By Dermot - 11th May 2018

Last night, Minister for Health Simon Harris announced that he had met with HSE Director General (DG) Mr Tony O’Brien, who informed him of “his decision to step down”.

“I would like to express my thanks to Tony O’Brien for his many years of dedicated public service,” said Minister Harris.

“I know that he is standing down from his role today because he believes it is in the best interest of rebuilding public confidence in the wake of the issues which have arisen in CervicalCheck.”

This morning, Mr O’Brien tweeted “when I appear in public – say at a Committee I conduct myself against a simple standard. Would I be happy for my children or my mother to see how I behave? I sometimes look across the room and hope their children will never see and hear how they behave.”
